Does Barnard College Require SAT Essay Writing?Do Barnard College requirements to write an SAT essay really apply? I recently heard a professor who was in my undergraduate classes, who told me that they don't. He explained that because the SAT is not a requirement at Barnard College, students must demonstrate their mastery of the SAT essay and it has to be done to their desired level.The reason is that they want their students to understand how the essays are structured. They will check for some 'minor grammar' but those points should not overshadow the ability to communicate the points clearly and effectively. They would not expect students to be able to write well from the first paragraph, which means they would not expect a student to write well after that. Students, therefore, are expected to write the essays at a 'blended' level, that is, to show themselves to be capable of writing well from each paragraph all the way to the end.I believe, also, that an APA (American Psychologic al Association) writing sample is required and that is why they asked you to submit one, as well. I'm not sure that they require you to write from start to finish, but they certainly expect you to complete the sample section and take the essay test.So if the questions at Barnard College don't apply to you, don't worry. You're not alone.While it is true that the APA writing sample and Barnard College essay test do not apply to all students, it can still help you. You don't need to worry about what questions they might ask you; you just need to try to be aware of some of the criteria for writing a very good essay. This will make your job a lot easier.I have observed that many through their entire college career without having this test. Why? Because it seems obvious to them that the entire point of writing is to create a persuasive argument, which of course you cannot do without it.For many students, however, it's much more difficult to write a good essay at Barnard.
